Man pays water bill he found on street in Turkey’s Denizli
DENİZLİ
A local man in the southwestern province of Denizli has paid a water bill that he found on the street, state-run Anadolu Agency reported on Jan. 3.
The man, identified as Ramazan Özlen, found the bill from the local water department while on his way to work, alongside a 50-Turkish Lira ($13.30) note on the ground.
Presuming that someone had dropped the bill and the money to pay it, Özlen pocketed both and later paid the bill online.
“Thinking the owner of the bill may be struggling, I took the money and went to work. Then I later paid the bill online,” Özlen told reporters.
He took a picture of the bill and posted it on social media alongside a message reading: “Whoever this belongs to, it’s taken care of. The owner can pick up their change worth 1.30 liras whenever they want.”
Anadolu Agency reported that Özlen’s employer subsequently awarded him a certificate of appreciation for his “exemplary behavior.”
