A 66-year-old man, Kerim Çakır, was left locked inside a mosque for 1.5 hours today when other worshippers left after prayers in the Black Sea province of Ordu, Anatolia news agency reported.

The worshippers locked up the İmam Hatip Mosque after the prayer, unaware that Çakır was still praying inside.

Police were notified when a resident noticed Çakır inside the empty mosque. Police officers immediately arrived and unlocked the building, releasing Çakır after his 1.5-hour wait.

Çakır was visiting his daughter in town and had never been to the İmam Hatip Mosque before.
