A mosque used loudspeakers for a Muslim call to prayer in the German capital of Berlin despite a ban on this practice, Turkey’s state-run broadcaster TRT Haber reported on June 17.

Ali Kaya, the Muslim cleric of the Fatih Mosque in the Kreuzberg district reportedly told that the call to prayer was recited from the minaret during a street festival to mark the Eid al-Fitr holiday this weekend.

Kaya admitted that they had no permission from city officials and security forces did not intervene to stop the call to prayer.

“Those who listened to it, both Turks and Germans, were emotionally moved,” Kaya was quoted as saying.

Fatih Mosque is tied to the Islamic Community National View (Milli Görüş) Organization, the agency added.
