Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu was welcomed by locals in the Black Sea province of Artvin as “prime minister” during a visit on Aug. 18.

After spending the weekend in the province’s Şavşat district, Davutoğlu traveled to the center of Artvin, where some of the locals greeted him with cries of, “Welcome to our city, Prime Minister,” to which he responded by smiling and saying, “It’s up to God’s will.”

Davutoğlu is seen as a strong candidate for the new prime ministry position after Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was elected as the Turkish Republic’s 12th president in the Aug. 10 election.
