Local officials form meters-long queue to greet new governor in Turkey's east

Eyebrows have been raised after dozens of local officials and civil society representatives gathered to form a lengthy queue, waiting to greet the newly-appointed governor of Turkey’s eastern province of Erzurum.Governor Seyfettin Azizoğlu, appointed as governor of Erzurum after serving in the Black Sea province of Bartın, was greeted upon his arrival at the Erzurum Governor’s Office at around 10:30 a.m. on June 20.
Azizoğlu’s appointment was part of a long-awaited reshuffle in which 24 new governors were appointed with an enactment published in the Official Gazette on May 31. Some 22 other governors were recalled to the capital Ankara, maintaining their titles although not assigned to a specific province.
