Lions seek to bounce back against Kayseri

ISTANBUL

Galatasaray lost 2-0 in a game that marked former Chelsea icon Didier Drogba’s (C) return to Stamford Bridge for the first time after leaving the Blues.

Galatasaray will try to find some morale when it meets Kayserispor just four days after getting knocked out of the Champions League.

The two-time defending Turkish champion meets bottom-dweller Kayserispor in the Spor Toto Super League on March 22, and it will try to do better than its midweek performance.

Galatasaray lost 2-0 to Chelsea on March 18 to bow out of the European football’s elite club competition, but the way it was defeated was probably more hurtful, with the Lions failing to get a single shot on the goal, never managing to trouble the Londoners.

Galatasaray has 49 points and follows Fenerbahçe from a five-point gap, which is likely to be opened up to eight points, with the Turkish Football Federation yet to decide on the Trabzonspor-Fenerbahçe game.

Fenerbahçe was leading 1-0 when Trabzonspor’s fans began throwing objects at the pitch and interrupted the game, and it is likely to be awarded a 3-0 win.

Also on March 22, Medical Park Antalyaspor hosts Kardemir Karabükspor, Bursaspor meets Torku Konyaspor and Çaykur Rizespor meets Eskişehirspor.

On March 23, Beşiktaş, third with 47 points, hosts solid Akhisar, which is seventh with 36 points.
Akhisar is chasing a European qualification spot, but it conceded 10 goals combined in visits to Istanbul to face Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe.

Also on March 23, Gençlerbirliği takes on Sanica Boru Elazığspor and Kayseri Erciyesspor meets Sivasspor.

Fenerbahçe will play at Gaziantepspor on March 24.
