Kyrgyz Parliament voids $49.2 mln debt to Turkey

The Kyrgyz Parliament has approved a motion to erase the country’s $49.2 million debt to the Turkish government.Kyrgyzstan had taken out a loan from Turkey’s Export Loan Bank (TÜRK EXİMBANK) on Jan. 15 1993.
During Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev’s visit to Turkey last April, it was decided that the debt would be erased. When Turkish President Abdullah Gül subsequently visited Bishkek on Dec. 1, he signed the formal agreement to erase the debt.
