Speaking to reporters as he was being taken to the Numune Hospital, Prof. Süleyman Okudan said, referring to the money found in his bedroom, "My own money. We will speak later. I will answer questions later." Police seized the money because it was believed to be proceeds from bribery.

The medical checks of 33 of the 34 detained Monday were a preliminary procedure before the suspects are sent to court for arrest. Among those detained were Konya Foundations Department Provincial Director, İbrahim Genç, Numune Hospital Chief Surgeon, Rıza Sarıpabıççı, and Medical Faculty Director Atilla Çalışkan. The treatment of Sarıpabıççı, who suffered from high blood pressure after his arrest, continues at the Numune Hospital, reported the Anatolia news agency. The prosecutor released Sarıpabıççı yesterday due to his illness. He will later go to Adana for questioning, reports said.

The police operation targeted the Okyanus Group, which is said to have won most of the university’s tenders in the past 12 years

Earlier police operations took place across 12 provinces. Accusations include forming a criminal gang, corrupting tenders, bribery, coercion, blackmail and forgery. All 34 suspects are to be sent today to Adana, on the Mediterranean coast, where the investigation is centered.
