Koç family members top income tax list

Semahat Sevim Arsel became the income tax champion of Turkey with 33.6 million Turkish Liras of accrued tax in 2011, the Anatolia news agency reported on April 27.

Rahmi Koç was in second place with 33.6 million liras, followed by Suna Kıraç with 25.2 million liras.

Semahat Sevim Arsel is the sister of late tycoon Vehbi Koç, and Rahmi Koç’s aunt. Suna Kıraç is the daughter of Vehbi Koç.

Members of the Koç family populated the first 10 places on the list of highest income tax payers. Mustafa Vehbi Koç was fifth, Yıldırım Ali Koç sixth and Mehmet Ömer Koç seventh on the list. The remainder of the top ten taxpayers chose not to disclose their names.

Aydın Doğan, honorary president of Doğan Holding, was the 12th highest income tax payer last year.

Tax payers of Istanbul, Turkey’s largest city in terms of population an economical size, provided some 40 percent of the accrued income tax. Istanbul is followed by Ankara with about 9 percent and the western province of İzmir with more than 6 percent.
