‘Journey Within’ theme of Sound Ports Istanbul edition

Sound Ports Istanbul, an independent music and arts festival dedicated to urban music, sub cultures, Mediterranean vibes, positive people and positive thinking, will be organized between March 24 and April 2 under the title “Journey Within.”

Headliners of the festival will be Tuareg band Tamikrest (Mali/Algeria), Buttering Trio ft. Ester Rada (Tel Aviv), and Scratchy Sounds (Britain) as well as the Yakaza Ensemble, among others.

“Since its first edition in 2016 there have been several attacks in Istanbul aimed at civilians,” according to the festival website. 

“These incidents have cast a dark mood over the city and its inhabitants. And this mood is disconnecting people from the outside world. We are turning in on ourselves, asking fundamental questions. What is going on? What should I do? What will happen tomorrow? What is happening now, both in our region and across the world? Sound Ports 2017 does not aim to find the answers, but to bring a musical and artistic companionship to our journeys within ourselves. The Istanbul edition is delighted to bring you artists, musicians, shamans and voyagers of urban Sufism, psychedelia, inner journeys, music and humanity,” said the website in explaining the aim of the festival. 

The festival venues include Arkaoda, KargaArt and Bant Mag Bina in Kadıköy and Salon İKSV in Beyoğlu.
