Journalists to march to protest police crackdowns in Turkey

A group of Turkish journalists, who called themselves as “Journalists’ Forum” during the Gezi Park protests, will march through Istanbul’s Istiklal Avenue at 7:00 p.m. today to protest police crackdowns, media threats, arbitrary detentions and censorship in the Turkish media during the Gezi Park protests.Journalists called for action to defend their rights against “threats, censorship, sacking and detentions” within the Gezi Park protests, which have turned into nationwide anti-government rallies after a police crackdown on a sit-in against a controversial city center renovation plan. Five people have been killed over the course of the clashes, and injured thousands.
“Leave me to do my job!” has been picked as the main slogan chant for the journalists’ march.
