Journalist Ali Tarakçı injured in gun attack after ‘brawl in traffic’
ISTANBUL
Ali Tarakçı, a journalist for private broadcaster Akit TV, was injured in a gun attack in the Esenyurt district on Nov. 20, which allegedly erupted after a brawl in traffic, state-run Anadolu Agency has reported.
Tarakçı reportedly had a quarrel with a driver behind him. The unidentified driver fired shots at Tarakçı, wounding him in his leg.
He was rushed to the hospital by locals nearby and is reported to be in stable condition.
According to Tarakçı’s wife, the journalist was deliberately attacked by two people after they slightly hit his car from behind.
Meanwhile his co-partner, Mehmet Mert, claimed that a possible motive behind the incident was Tarakçı’s reporting and he had been a target on account of his journalistic work.
