‘Jazz in Ramadan’ in Istanbul and Ankara
ISTANBUL
At a press conference held at the French Palace in Istanbul, French Consul General Muriel Domenach said an iftar meal and public concert was held in the garden of the palace for the first time last year.
“It received considerable interest and encouraged us to do more. So this year we decided to host an iftar meal again,” Domenach said.
As part of the Jazz in Ramadan Festival this year, the Andre Manoukian Quartet and Okay Temiz will take the stage in Istanbul and in Ankara.
“It is very important to realize this musical meeting in 2015 in Istanbul and Ankara. This concert symbolizes cultural diversity,” Domenach added.
The opening concert of the festival will be given by Okay Temiz and the Roma Orchestra at the Uniq Open-Air Stage on July 4, while Yasmine Hamdan will be on the same stage on July 5, and Pier Blanchar and the Gypsy Jazz Quartet will perform on July 9.
The Andre Manoukian Quartet will perform on July 10 in the garden of the French Palace in Istanbul. The concert will also feature three renowned names of Turkish-Roma music: Yarımdünya Hasan, Hacı Rüstem Çembeli and Ahmet Özden.
The last concert of the festival will be hosted in the garden of the French Embassy in Ankara on July 11.
