İzmir will host 46 Salvador Dali creations at the Ahmed Adnan Saygun Art Center, including 13 pieces belong to his 12 signs of the Zodiac series. The free-of-charge exhibition is one of the most important to have come to İzmir and will run from Jan. 17 to March 2.Earlier in 2011, a Dali exhibition came to Istanbul’s Mimar Sinan University of Fine Arts in cooperation with InArtis and Kült. A total of 121 pieces consisting of lithographs and watercolors from Dali’s print series “Divine Comedy,” “Traces of Surrealism” and “Dinner with Gala,” which critics regard as exemplary of his symbolist and surrealist style, were shown in the Istanbul exhibit. “Divine Comedy” consists of 100 prints, one print for each canto of Dante’s epic poem of the same name, and “Traces of Surrealism” is made up of nine lithographic color printings made by Dali in Paris in 1971.
The former exhibition was originally organized in part by the Italian government to honor the 700th birthday of the Italian poet Dante Alighieri in the beginning of the 1950s. The exhibition later visited the Turkish capital of Ankara’s Cer Modern Museum.
