Federico Motka, an Italian aid worker who was kidnapped in war-torn Syria nearly a year ago, has been released, arriving in Turkey late May 26.

Motka, 31, entered Turkey via the Akçakale border gate in the southeastern province of Şanlıurfa.

He was greeted by Turkish army officials at the border and underwent a medical check-up at hospital. He was then brought to the foreigners’ office of a local police department.

Motka left Turkey for Italy early on May 27, reports said.
