Istanbul’s Kadıköy municipality joins Star Wars mania, warns street vendors with Darth Vader
ISTANBUL
“We have increased the ‘force’ of our constabularies,” the tweet said, as the root of the word “to strengthen” is “force” in the Turkish language.
The picture of a constable in a Kadıköy market place wearing a Darth Vader mask and holding a light saber was also shared with the tweet.
“I find your lack of tutanak [official papers] disturbing,” the policeman-turned-Darth Vader was quoted as saying.
The sentence was a reference to a quote from the fourth episode of Star Wars, the 1977 film entitled “A New Hope,” where Darth Vader says, “I find your lack of faith disturbing,” before killing the chief of the Imperial Navy.
Social media has been stormed with Star Wars references over the past weeks as the series’ latest film “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” finally opened in cinemas on Dec. 16.
While fans pre-booked their tickets weeks in advance, Facebook allowed its users to customize their profile pictures by adding a light saber from the light or the dark side.
