İDO, Istanbul’s ferry firm, will offer new rates for automobiles as of July 1, according to a statement by the firm, Anatolia news agency reported yesterday. The prices will be lower than they were before the firm was privatized in 2011.

The new fees for automobiles will be valid from Monday to Thursday. Passengers will pay fixed prices for their cars.

However, the campaign will last only until August 15. The firm has recently come under heavy criticism for its ticket-pricing policy.

Republican People’s Party (CHP) deputy Turhan Tayan has filed a complaint with the Competition Authority against İDO on the grounds that it allegedly abuses its monopoly position. Also the Bursa Metropolitan Municipality has taken steps to establish its own marine transportation firm, claiming that passengers are exploited by İDO’s flexible price policy. İDO denies the allegations.
