İşsanat welcomes Bremen orchestra

ISTANBUL - Hürriyet Daily News
Istanbul’s İşsanat will play host to the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen on May 6 for a concert encompassing a diverse array of musical styles.

The highly motivated chamber music-like approach of each player enables the ensemble to present outstanding concerts, even without a conductor. The orchestra’s rich repertoire ranges from baroque to contemporary music and collaboration with specialists in specific genres has been a characteristic feature of the ensemble from the start.

The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen will perform under the baton of Trevor Pinnock, known worldwide as a harpsichordist and a conductor who pioneered the performance on historical instruments with his own orchestra, The English Concert, which he founded in 1972. Pinnock has had a multifaceted career as a conductor, soloist, and chamber musician and educator.

The soloist of the night is Portuguese pianist Maria Joao Pires, who will record Beethoven Piano Concertos for Deutsche Grammophon with Pinnock in the near future. Pires achieved international recognition by winning the first prize at the Brussels “Beethoven International Competition” in 1970. Her recordings of the Chopin nocturnes were selected as the best version available by Gramophone magazine.
