İlham Tanui Özbilen takes silver medal in 1500m indoor European meet

Turkish athlete İlham Tanui Özbilen won the silver medal tonight in the men’s 1500m race at the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Gothenburg, Sweden. 

The athlete, who is of Kenyan origin, led for most of the race, but was ultimately overtaken in the final meters by France’s Mahieddine Mexhissi Benabbab. Özbilen finished in a time of 3.37.22 minutes, just 5 milliseconds behind Benabbab. 

French runner Simon Denizel won the bronze medal.  

Turkish sprinter Nevin Yanıt won a gold medal on March 1 at the championships in the 60m hurdles race.
