Ali Ağaoğlu, one of the leading actors in Turkey’s recent real estate sector boom, has denied claims that he was afraid to visit Diyarbakır in Turkey’s southeast because of the recent terror attacks in the region.
Remzi Can, head of the Diyarbakır Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said at a press conference last week that Ağaoğlu had been invited to a fair in the province, but that the businessman had demanded a private plane and an armored vehicle to join the fair.

Ağaoğlu denied this yesterday, stressing that his company ran three hydropower plants in Bingöl and another one in Şırnak, the two provinces in the same region.

On way to Diyarbakır

The contractor said he would also add Hakkari to his portfolio if a good chance arose. “I provide jobs for nearly 4,000 people in the region. This news report, which does not match my character, has hurt me. I will go to Diyarbakır this week, if possible tomorrow. I am one of the masses, I do not need an armored vehicle,” he told Doğan news agency in a phone interview yesterday.

Ağaoğlu also said he would visit Can during his visit to Diyarbakır, where he would also be making a number of other inspections.
