Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has said he is "not a king, but rather a prime minister elected with the nation’s votes," Doğan News Agency has reported.

Citizens attending the opening ceremony of Istanbul's new "Archers' Lodge" yesterday, where Erdoğan was giving a speech, chanted slogans declaring: “The king of prime ministers is from Kasımpaşa,” referring to the prime minister's origins in Istanbul’s tough Kasımpaşa neighborhood.

“I am not a king. I am a prime minister elected by my nation’s votes,” he said in a response. “I am your servant, not your master.”
