Hititology workshop at METU

ANKARA
As part of the 50th anniversary of the Middle East Technical University (METU) Alumni Association, a workshop titled “Hititology in the 100th Year of the Hittite Language” will be held on Dec. 20 at the university’s Vişnelik campus between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.

The workshop will include presentations on new academic studies of the Hittite language and archaeology. A special text that will be written in the end of the workshop will be published in the METU Bulletin.

Among the titles of presentations in the workshop are “Kültepe archives and tablet publications,” “Thoughts on the problems of ancient science in Turkey,” “Hititology and Sedat Alp,” “Hititology in Turkey and the world,” and “Latest developments in Hittite archaeology: The Ovaören excavations.”

A special text written at the end of the workshop will be published in the METU Bulletin.

The year 2015 is said to be the “100th year of the Hittite language” because Czech scholar Bedřich Hrozný declared in 1915 that the Hittite language was an Indo-European language.
