Highway investments focus of Transportation Ministry

The Ministry of Transportation said yesterday that 65 percent, or 80.9 billion Turkish Liras of its total investment – from a ministry total of 123 billion liras - had gone towards the construction of highways from 2003 to the end of 2011.

Investments in railways took the second spot in total investments with 18 percent or 21.9 billion
liras, followed by communications with 11 percent or nearly 14.2 billion liras.

The aviation sector came fourth in investments with 5.1 billion liras, or 4 percent of total investments. The maritime sector received the lowest investments, with 2 percent of the total or 1.9 billion liras.

The ministry assumed 86 percent (106.4 billion liras) of the total investments, while the remaining investments (16.8 billion liras) were via build-operate-transfer schemes.
