Turkish and European Internet users are not into porn, virtual gambling or match-making sites, but they are interested in art, news, music, movies and literatures, an NGO head said in a presentation to the Turkish Parliament yesterday, citing a recent report from the European Council.Alternative Informatics Association head Ali Rıza Keleş presented the data to Parliament’s Information and Internet Commission. According to the report the five web topics Turkish Internet users are most interested in are news, movies, music, art, literature and health. The website categories Turks are least interested in were listed as games, porn, romance and match-making.
The same research showed that Turks are not the only “good kids” in the virtual world. Europeans also close their eyes to porn, the European Council report showed. Hungarians were found to visit mostly style, game, news and music sites, and to refrain from sites related to the government, drugs, religion, politics and gambling. The report also showed that the U.K.’s most-visited sites deal with fashion, music and online shopping.
Meanwhile, in a separate presentation, the head of the Development Ministry’s Information and Society Department, Emin Sadık Aydın, said Turkish Internet users are reading mostly online newspapers and magazines, citing his own data and the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK). They are interested in political issues, networking, academic and career opportunities and internet banking, he added.
