‘Hacked’ footballer’s tweet causes excitement

Galatasaray fans enjoyed a few minutes of excitement on May 1 after Eskişehirspor winger Erkan Zengin appeared to announce on Twitter that he would leave his club to move to the Turkish champions, only for the Swedish international to say his account had been hacked.

 On the night of May 1, a tweet which read “My club and Galatasaray have agreed on terms. I have reached a deal with GS starting from the 2013-2014 [campaign]” was sent from Zengin’s official account on the microblogging website.

Fifty minutes later, however, Zengin sent another tweet, saying: “My twitter account was temporarily hacked. I have no knowledge about what has been written. What’s released is not true.”

 The 27-year-old midfielder is having a very successful season with Eskişehirspor this season, catching the eye of Turkey’s top football clubs, along with teammate Alper Potuk.

 His performances have also earned him a debut cap with the Sweden national football team earlier this year.

Swedish-born player holds dual Swedish-Turkish citizenship, making him a valuable player given that teams are limited to only fielding six foreign players at any one time.
