Greek PM to pay ‘friendly’ visit to Turkey

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras will pay a visit to Turkey beginning on Nov. 17 to meet with Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu to talk on key issues between the two countries.

Tsipras and Davutoğlu will watch a friendly game between the national football teams of the two countries at Istanbul’s Fatih Terim Stadium on the first day of the visit.

The two leaders are expected to speak on the refugee issue, Turkey’s relations with the European Union, the Cyprus issue and bilateral ties, daily Hürriyet has learned. 

Efforts were ongoing to arrange a meeting between Tsipras and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, it was reported. 

The Greek prime minister is scheduled to return to Athens on Nov. 18. 

The relationship between the two nations sharing long Aegean coasts bears great importance in terms of the ongoing refugee crisis, as the coast guards of both nations are on alert with accidents on the open sea involving migrants occurring on a daily basis.
