Greek authorities have temporarily shut down 12 minority schools in Western Trace due to low enrollment.

The Education Ministry has decided to suspend activities and teacher appointments at 12 schools in Xanthi, Rodop and Evros.

Greece adopted a “unification of schools” program to provide better education at a lower cost in 2011. The number of schools across Greece was decreased from 1,933 to 877 as part of the program, while 14 minority schools in Western Trace were shut down permanently.
