Gov’t has no problem with probe into April 27
ANKARA
The government has no problem with a possible investigation into the so-called “e-memorandum” of 2007, but it is up to the judicial authorities to decide, Deputy Prime Minister Bekir Bozdağ said.“The government does not have the authority to open and conduct an investigation [on the e-memorandum]. The prosecutors do not take instructions from anyone to open an investigation, they do it directly. If prosecutors are considering an investigation for April 27 [2009], then they can open it as they have done for the Feb. 28 process,” Bozdağ said. The “e-memorandum,” posted on the military’s website at midnight on April 27, 2007, was the first episode in a chain of events that forced early parliamentary elections that year. In the statement, the army threatened to step in to protect Turkey’s secular system after Abdullah Gül became a presidential candidate.
