Golden Ball Awards presented in Istanbul

The awards of the 22nd Golden Ball Film Festival, which was held between Sept. 14 and 19 last year in the southern province of Adana, were presented at a ceremony held during the weekend in Istanbul. The ceremony was postponed because of the country’s current clashes with the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).The festival’s honorary awards were presented to radio program producer and presenter Sezen Cumhur Önal, director Türker İnanoğlu and actor Aytaç Arman.
Veteran actress Türkan Şoray presented the award named in her honor, the Türkan Şoray Promising Actress Award, to Ece Yüksel, who won the award for her role in “Nefesim Kesilene Kadar” (Until I Lose My Breath).
The best film award went to “Abluka” (Frenzy). The film also won the audience award as well as both best art director and best fiction.
The Yılmaz Güney award was received by “Kar Korsanları” (Snow Pirates), while best director was given to Tolga Karaçelik for his film “Sarmaşık” (The Ivy). Nihal Koldaş won best actress for her role in “Ana Yurdu” (Homeland), which also won for best script. The best actor award went to Nadir Sarıbacak for his role in “The Ivy.”
Meanwhile, the Turkish Film Critics Association (SİYASD) and the Turkish Film Director Association (YÖN) awards went to “Homeland.”
