Getting in touch with the past
Istanbul gets in touch with its distant past with an exhibition focusing on the city’s Byzantine heritage. “Artamonoff: Picturing Byzantine Istanbul, 1930-1947” presents the Byzantine heritage of Istanbul from the perspective of Nicholas V. Artamonoff, who had a deep interest in the history of the city. It features photographs taken by Artamonoff, an amateur photographer of Russian origin, during the time he lived in Istanbul between 1922 and 1947. The exhibition will continue at Koç University’s Research Center of Anatolian Civilizations (RCAC) Gallery in Beyoğlu in Istanbul until Oct. 6.
