German prosecutors say they have charged a 42-year-old Turkish man with membership in the outlawed Kurdistan Worker's Party (PKK) on allegations he was the group’s regional leader in Germany.

Prosecutors said today the man, identified only as Vezir T. in accordance with German privacy laws, was charged in Berlin court on Oct. 8 with membership in a foreign terrorist organization.

The suspect was arrested Dec. 8 on suspicion he served as the PKK’s contact person in the state of Saxony, as well as aiding the organization in other German states.

The PKK is considered a terrorist organization by the U.S. and the EU.
