German team switches hotel in Turkey to avoid Russian models

It seems that sharing a hotel with 400 Russian models isn’t every sportsman’s idea of a good time.

German third-division football team Duisburg says it has changed the hotel booking for its winter training camp in Turkey next week after learning that the hotel it had reserved is hosting a pageant of Russian models, the Associated Press reported.

MSV Duisburg was forced to change its plans in the Turkish resort city of Antalya after they discovered that their hotel would also be hosting a Russian beauty contest, complete with 400 participants.

Eager to avoid any distractions that might have ensued, Duisburg cancelled their booking at the Hotel Royal Wings, citing the need to “calmly prepare” before their season resumes on Jan. 31, and have moved to the Royal Holiday Palace, the Guardian reported.

“Because the previously planned winter training camp in Antalya will also host a Russian model contest with 400 (!) participants, the MSV entourage will move,” a club statement read. “We want to calmly prepare for the spring series. Therefore, MSV team manager Michael Meier has rescheduled.”

The team will be staying at another hotel in the Mediterranean city of Antalya’s Lara district from Jan. 8-16
