Gendarmerie seizes 1.3 tons of marijuana in southeastern Turkey

Gendarmerie forces launched raids in 10 separate locations in the southeastern province of Diyarbakır today, seizing 1,330 kilograms of marijuana.Special forces and commandos took part in the raids, backed up by helicopters and gunships.
Specially trained dogs found 1,330 kilograms of marijuana wrapped in nylons and placed in containers. The market value of the seized drugs were estimated at around 3 million Turkish Liras. One person was arrested in the raids while security forces were looking for two other suspects.
Officials said they dealt a serious blow to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party's (PKK) finances with the operation.
The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States and the European Union.
