Leader Galatasaray will look to extend its winning streak to six games when it hosts Gençlerbirliği in the Spor Toto Super League on March 10.The Lions stand comfortably on top of the standings with 66 points and a nine-point advantage over its closest chaser, Fenerbahçe.
The two Istanbul rivals will meet in a crucial game in the title race next week. Galatasaray will try to enter the derby in the best shape possible by beating Gençlerbirliği.
Although performing above expectations this season and sitting fifth with 44 points, Gençlerbirliği has recently been on a poor run with three defeats and one draw in its last four games. The Ankara team was on the wrong end of a 6-1 rout against Fenerbahçe last week.
The game at Istanbul’s Türk Telekom Arena starts at 7 p.m.
Istanbul BB will host Kayserispor in another game of the day at 4 p.m.
Beşiktaş will aim to end its poor run playing at Orduspor at 4 p.m. on March 11. The Black Eagles have slipped to fourth with 49 points and have won only once in their last seven league games. The team also lost 3-1 to Atletico Madrid in the first leg of the Europa League round of 16 on March 8.
Three goals in a space of 14 minutes in the first half put Beşiktaş in a state of shock at the Vicente Calderon Stadium, but the Istanbul team managed to salvage some hope with a classy strike by Simao. The return game will be played at the Istanbul İnönü Stadium next week.
Earlier, Manisaspor, who has won only one of its last 17 matches, takes on Mersin İdman Yurdu, in one of three key relegation battles, along with Samsunspor-Gaziantepspor and Karabükspor-Antalyaspor games at 1 p.m.
