Four workers injured in lightning strike in western Turkey

Four municipal workers have been injured by a lightning strike while working in a graveyard in the western province of Denizli.

Ayhan Aday, Adil Ortaç, Erdal Nazalı and Mevlüt Öksüz, who are employees at Denizli Metropolitan Municipality, were injured while digging a grave in Denizli’s Kale district when lightning struck on Aug. 2.

All four were first taken to Kale Public Hospital with injuries from the strike before being transferred to Pamukkale University Medical School Hospital. The quartet was reported to be in good condition.

In a separate incident, a firefighter and a warehouse employee were hospitalized on Aug. 2 following severe exposure to smoke from a fire in a paper warehouse in the Söke district of the western province of Aydın.

Firefighter Hasan Ali Taşdiken and warehouse employee Mehmet Ali Taylan were taken to Söke Public Hospital after they were exposed to smoke in the warehouse, which was full of 150 tons of paper, at around 3 p.m. on Aug. 2. 

Taşdiken and Taylan were reported to be in fair condition.
