Four Turkish deputies to attend European Parliament’s LGBTI seminary in Tirana

Four Turkish parliamentarians will attend a seminary on fundamental rights and protecting LGBTI (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex) people from discrimination, organized by the European Parliament in the Albanian capital Tirana on Nov. 20-21.

Two deputies from the ruling Justice and Development Part (AKP), a deputy from the main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) and a deputy from Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) will attend the seminary titled “Fundamental Rights, Ban on Discrimination and the Protection of Sensitive Groups including LGBTI” that will take place in Tirana, according to the Kaos GL Association’s website.

The seminary will bring together members of the European Parliament and those of the European Union candidate countries, in order to discuss issues such as EU’s regulations against discrimination, protecting minority rights, and the role of media for altering prejudices toward sexual orientation and sexual identities.

The AKP’s Mehmet Metiner and Ziver Özdemir, the CHP’s Binnaz Toprak and the MHP’s Ruhsar Demirel, all of whom are either members of the human rights or the women and men’s equal opportunity commissions in the Turkish Parliament, will take part in the seminar.
