Former Turkish child star acquires Twitter shares worth $5 million

Turkish arabesque-pop singer and former child star Emrah has acquired shares in Twitter, apparently tempted after the social media giant’s successful initial public offering (IPO) on Nov. 7.

Emrah, who first rose to prominence as a child actor and singer in the early 1980s, bought shares in the microblogging company worth $5 million, according to reports.

The 32-year-old singer, who is of Kurdish origin, is mostly remembered for his starring roles as a miserable child in a number of melodramatic films. He is known for investing his earnings in several money-spinning businesses, including real estate and taxi plates.

Twitter’s debut on the New York Stock Exchange stirred individual investors’ appetite worldwide, with its shares jumping 73 percent on its first day of trading on Nov. 7, driving the seven-year-old company’s market value to around $25 billion.

Twitter’s share price rocketed well past the $26-per-share minimum the company had set before the IPO, and is currently being traded above $44.
