Retired counterterrorism head of the National Intelligence Organization (MİT) Mehmet Eymür, who was detained on Dec. 29, was released yesterday. An Ankara court has banned Eymür from leaving the country. Eymür was allegedly detained in relation to the testimony of former Special Operations Officer Ayhan Çarkın. Çarkın confessed to being part of state groups that committed criminal acts in the struggle against the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) earlier in June. He also confessed to involvement with a series of deep state operations that resulted in hundreds of deaths.
