Five suspects detained in anti-ISIL raids in Turkey’s Black Sea region

Five suspects have been detained in an operation against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) in the Black Sea province of Samsun, while two foreigners, who were alleged to be ISIL members, were detained in the southeastern province of Kilis. 

Anti-terror police launched an operation in the İlkadım and Bafra districts of Samsun early Aug. 20, detaining five people for allegedly being members of ISIL. 

Police started technical and physical surveillance around a year ago on the five suspects on grounds that they were members of ISIL, were conducting propaganda over the Internet on behalf of the organization and contacted the areas where ISIL is present in Syria and Iraq. 

The ages of the five suspects varied between 28 and 42, and documents belonging to the organization were also seized in the operations. 

Meanwhile, two foreigners who are allegedly members of ISIL were caught in Kilis’ Elbeyli district, which borders Syria in the country’s southeast, according to a statement issued by the province’s governor’s office. 

“Judiciary and administrative action has been launched against the apprehended suspects,” the statement said.
