Five children killed in Şanlıurfa car accident

ŞANLIURFA

A road accident in the southeastern city of Şanlıurfa's Akçakale district on Aug. 1 claimed the lives of five children and injured three others.

The incident occurred when a car veered off the highway, striking pedestrians before crashing into two parked cars and coming to a halt.

Two children died at the scene, while six others were rushed to various hospitals by ambulance. Three more children succumbed to their injuries while receiving treatment.

One of the three injured individuals remains in serious condition, Şanlıurfa Governor Hasan Şıldak confirmed to reporters.

He said the cause of the vehicle losing control is still under investigation.

Authorities are conducting an operation throughout the city to apprehend the driver, who fled the scene after the crash. Following the investigation, the other vehicles involved in the accident were towed away from the area.

Three of the children who died were siblings, and the other two were their cousins, local media revealed. The injured include a couple who lost two of their children in the accident, and their surviving child also sustained injuries.
