Fenerbahçe maintained their ruthless domination over the Turkish Super League with a 4-0 dismissal of 10-man Akhisar Belediyespor Dec. 13 at the Şükrü Saraçoğlu Stadium in Istanbul.

The game also showed evidence of the efficiency in the finishing of the Yellow Canaries’ African trio of strikers – Moussa Sow, Pierre Webo and Emmanuel Emenike - who scored one goal each as the Portuguese defender Bruno Alves added his share to make it 4-0.

Imperious since dropping its opener away to Konyaspor, Fenerbahçe sums 38 points and are 11 ahead second-placed Kasımpaşa with one more match played.

The visitors started off the game on the wrong foot as their key player, midfielder Bilal Kısa, who was called on by Fatih Terim to the national squad during the last two friendlies, was injured in the 15th minute.

Akhisar then granted a penalty in the 25th minute after Sow’s shot from the middle range was deflected by his compatriot Ibrahima Sonko’s hand. The Senegalese defender received a red card from a second yellow, leaving his side down to 10 men.

Dirk Kuyt’s penalty shot to the corner of the net was, however, saved by the keeper Eren Özyiğit, diving low to his right.

The respite, though, was short-lived as the Yellow Canaries opened the score in the 43rd minute after Kuyt headed a bad goal kick from the keeper towards Emenike, who thundered into the area sending the ball to the far post, unstoppable for Özyiğit.

Sow doubled the score after the break from inside the goal mouth in a pass from Emenike, before providing the assist for Fenerbahçe’s third in the 58th minute, scored by Webo. Bruno Alves settled the score on a corner kick in the 68th minute.

Despite the crushing victory, Coach Ersun Yanal complained about the team’s “generosity.” “There are two more games before winter break. We want to win them both. Today, we were a little generous. Our strongest point is the offense and the players on the front side,” Yanal said after the match.

Galatasaray, fourth at 26, returns to the Super League with a game against Gençlerbirliği on Dec. 15, amid their European high following their victory in the two day epic over Juventus.

Also on Dec. 15, Kasımpaşa, second at 26 points, will clash with third Beşiktaş in the game of the week.
