Fenerbahçe starts war after red card to Erkin
ISTANBUL- Hürriyet Daily News
Fenerbahçe’s fury in the wake a harsh red card in a Super League game hit a new high with a statement from the club yesterday. The club said it is “not the complainant of the incidents that happened in Turkish sports, but the ruler.”
The club’s fury started after coach Aykut Kocaman criticized referee Fırat Aydınus for sending off midfielder Caner Erkin for no apparent reason during the Spor Toto Super League match against Eskişehirspor on Nov. 17. The game ended 1-1.
Fenerbahçe echoed Kocaman’s post-match statements, saying the club “is aware” of what is happening, claiming that there was a bigger plot to take down the club.
“When it is about Fenerbahçe and Fenerbahçe fans, football is a game played against Fenerbahçe,” the statement said.
“Let’s not forget, our football team can be beaten by anybody, but can never be taken over,” the statement concluded.
