Fenerbahçe scrapes agonizing 2-1 last-gasp victory over Kayseri Erciyesspor

Fenerbahçe made their fans hold their breath until the last play of the game to knock out combative Kayseri Erciyesspor, snatching a 2-1 victory in tonight’s game at Kayseri’s Kadir Has Stadium.  
 
It looked like the Yellow Canaries would cruise to an easy victory, when in the 9th minute, Moussa Sow unleashed a header home without any opposition from the Kayseri Erciyes defense to a cross from Mehmet Topuz.
 
Kayseri’s newly promoted minnow side found the equalizer in the 23rd as Randall Azofeifa masterfully curled a long-range free kick out of the despairing reach of Fenerbahçe goalkeeper Volkan Demirel. 
 
Coach Fuat Çapa’s men then handed over the possession of the ball to the visitors, bidding on lethal counter-attack striker Sinan Kaloğlu and Azofeifa’s passing precision.
 
In the second half, Fenerbahçe wasted clear scoring opportunities with Sow and Dirk Kuyt and Erciyes was able to hold off their rivals until the end of the 90 minutes’ content to clinch a point against the leaders. 
 
However a late stoppage goal by Emmanuel Emenike would send the home crowd home frustrated and enable Fenerabhçe to secure their place on the top of the Super League. As the injury time was running out, the Yellow Canaries’ Dutch midfielder Kuyt sent a vicious cross to Erciyes’ area, which was headed home by the Nigerian forward on the second post into the net for an almost carbon copy goal of Sow’s.
 
Elsewhere, Trabzonspor dropped two points at home with a goalless draw against Sivasspor. Gaziantepspor and Torku Konyaspor also shared points with a 3-3 draw. Winless the first five weeks, Medical Park Antalyaspor summed up its third consecutive victory against visiting Akhisar Belediyespor with a solitary goal from Vederson.  
 
Fenerbahçe increases to 19 points, four ahead of Beşiktaş. The Black Eagles can reduce the gap to one point, as they will entertain Çaykur Rizespor on Oct. 21 at an empty Istanbul Atatürk Olympic Stadium due to a four match crowd ban.
