Female student abducted and beaten by four unidentified men

Ceren Ünver, a student enrolled in Anadolu University’s Communications Faculty, has been savagely beaten by four men in Eskişehir in the early hours of June 2.

A female student was abducted and brutally beaten by four unidentified men before being let go in front of the building where she lives, early on June 2 in the western province Eskişehir.

Ceren Ünver, a student enrolled in Anadolu University’s Communications Faculty, was forcibly taken into a car as she was returning home after finishing work in a café and was then taken to an empty field.

One of the assailants beat Ünver with a baton, while the other three kicked and punched her as she was lying on the ground. She also quoted one of the men who openly threatened her, saying, “We know your past. This is our second warning to you.”

Ünver eventually lost consciousness following a severe blow to her neck with a baton before being carried back to her home. She sustained injuries to her left eye and the left side of her head, as well as bruises on her neck.

The Democratic Rights Platform, a leftist nongovernmental organization of which Ünver is a member, condemned the attack in a statement. The young student has also filed a complaint to the police for the attack.

Ünver also claimed that she was followed by plainclothes officers before her abduction. The Eskişehir police department, however, refuted claims that spread on social media that the assailants were police officers.

The assault came exactly one year after the fatal beating of Ali İsmail Korkmaz, a Gezi protester who died as a result of injuries inflicted by plainclothes police officers.
