A famous Turkish cardiologist has been suspended from her medical duties for 15 days after complaints from the Turkish Gynecology and Obstetrics Foundation (TJOD) regarding controversial remarks on blood sugar tests were deemed correct by the Turkish Medical Association (TTB), a press release by the foundation has said.

The decision to suspend Professor Canan Karatay was finalized by the TTB, which said she had “violated occupational ethic rules, continued making non-scientific remarks and attitudes and continued to denigrate her counterparts” with controversial remarks on blood sugar tests.

The TJOD filed a complaint against Karatay in January 2015, alleging that she made  “statements on areas outside her field of expertise and caused harm to public health as well as making advertisements with her remarks and denigrating her counterparts.”

Karatay was also accused of “using unethical argument methods against doctors who have shared ideas conflicting with hers on medical issues.”

Evaluating the charges, the TTB passed judgment against Karatay in October 2015 but the decision was appealed by Karatay.

Karatay is widely known in Turkey for her TV appearances, where she mostly defends sugar-free meals and strict dieting methods.
