Family Minister Fatma Şahin, tops list of popular women: Study

Minister Fatma Şahin tops the popularity list of a media reserach firm.
A study carried out by Turkey’s Media Monitoring Center (MTM) has revealed the most popular women of Turkey, with Family and Social Policies Minister Fatma Şahin topping the list in all categories, while Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) co-chair Gültan Kışanak followed her in second place.The study conducted by MTM for the approaching March 8 International Women’s Day, said in recent years, women are struggling to take a more active role in political positions. Şahin was the most talked-about woman of the year in all categories with 14,041 news reports and articles about her.
The second most popular woman in politics was Kışanak, with 4,598 news reports and articles, while former premier Tansu Çiller, who recently made headlines in regards to the Feb. 28 investigation, came in third place. Meanwhile, in the business category of the study, Ümit Boyner, the former head of the Turkish Industrialists’ and Businessmen’s Association (TÜSİAD), came in first, while Doğan TV Holding Chairwoman Arzuhan Doğan Yalçındağ also ranked among the business top ten. Nuray Mert, who writes a weekly column for the Daily News was among the most popular female journalists.
