Fallen soldiers bid farewell

The bodies of five soldiers killed in clashes with suspected members of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in the eastern province of Hakkari on Nov. 18 have been returned to their hometowns following a military ceremony in nearby Van.The deceased soldiers, Lt. Gökhan Korkut, Gendarmerie Sgts. Mehmet Bostancı, Bekir Çavuş and Nihat Gün, as well as Specialist Sgt. Bilal Akgün, were brought to Van via three helicopters after a ceremony held in Hakkari.
The bodies of the soldiers were brought to the Van Gendarmerie Helicopter Squadron Command, where their coffins, each wrapped in a Turkish flag, were transferred to two Turkish Air Force planes and sent to their hometowns in Antalya, Konya, Çorum, Adana and Kahramanmaraş. Military officers and civilians attended the ceremony alongside the families of the soldiers.
