Exhibition in memory of Amy Winehouse opens in Turkey’s Antalya

British singer Amy Winehouse has been remembered with a series of portraits on the fourth anniversary of her death at an exhibition in Turkey’s southern Antalya province.

Three Turkish painters, Rüzgar Fidan, Ceylan Mutlu and Nurgül Dökmeciler, have painted a total of 36 portraits of Winehouse, which are currently on display at the Kalkan Culture House in Antalya’s Kaş district. In the opening ceremony of the exhibition, Fidan also painted a 150-by-200-centimeter Winehouse portrait live.

The exhibition attracted a number of local and foreign art-lovers in Kaş as well as British residents of Kalkan.

Winehouse’s famous songs will also be streamed during the exhibition.


Kalkan Culture House’s Özer Ulukaya said a part of the exhibition’s income would be donated to the foundation which Winehouse’s family founded to fight alcohol and drug abuse.

“Three painters from Turkey have depicted an artist who thrilled millions with their portraits. The Amy Winehouse Foundation in England also supports the exhibition. Our artists said that they would donate 20 percent of the exhibition’s income to the foundation,” said Ulukaya, speaking at the opening ceremony of the exhibition. 

The exhibition will be open until Aug. 10.

The famous singer died in 2011 as a result of alcohol poisoning at the age 27. 

Recently the biopic “Amy” nabbed just over $800,000 in the U.K. on its opening weekend, the biggest opening for a homegrown documentary and the second-biggest documentary opening ever in the U.K.
