ISTANBUL - Hürriyet Daily News
Galeri Nev is ready to celebrate artist Abidin Dino’s birth with an exhibition of 100 drawings.
Galeri Nev is set to honor the centennial of famous Turkish artist Abidin Dino’s birth with an exhibition of 100 drawings from the iconic figure in the country’s cultural scene. The exhibition, “Hundred Years, Hundred Drawings,” offers members of the public a chance to see the drawings, which collector Bekir Akbaş has been acquiring with passion and determination for more than a decade, for the first time.
Along with the exhibition, Galeri Nev will also be launching a catalogue penned by art historian İlhan Alemdar, one of the few witnesses of the Akbaş Collection’s slow but sure development. The catalogue will not only document the entire collection but will also help the reader discover several illustrations Abidin made for his close friends Yaşar Kemal and Nazım Hikmet, writers of some of the most famous masterpieces in Turkish literature.
Contemporaneously with the exhibition, the periodical Sanat Dünyamız will also be publishing a special dossier focusing on specific periods of Dino’s life and works. Deniz Artun’s article on relations between Galeri Nev and Abidin Dino, “Nev-i Şahsına Münhasır” which she is basing on the documents of NEVARCHIVE, and an article penned by Bora Gürdaş evaluating the works of the artist within the framework of the social and cultural dynamics of the 1960s, account for the most important portions of the oeuvre.
