EU’s Füle to visit Cyprus

EU Commissioner for Enlargement Stefan Füle will pay a visit to Cyprus over the course of today and tomorrow, meeting with top officials from both sides of the island, Anatolia news agency reported yesterday.Füle will meet with Northern Cyprus President Derviş Eroğlu, Turkish Cyprus Prime Minister İrsen Küçük and the leader of main opposition Republican Turkish Party (CTP) Özkan Yorgancıoğlu. Füle will also hold official meetings in Greek Cyprus and meet with Greek Cypriot President Demetris Christofias, Greek Cypriot Foreign Minister Erato Kozakou Marcoullis and opposition Democratic Rally (DISY) leader Nicos Anastassiades.
Füle will also host a dinner for representatives of the political parties on the island. He is scheduled to hold a press conference in EU House in Cyprus today. Füle will then attend the opening ceremony of a new bazaar and hold another press conference tomorrow. The Mediterranean island has been divided since Turkish troops intervened in 1974 in response to a Greek Cypriot coup seeking union with Greece.
